the iOs model of selling apps trough the device without dealing with micropayments is working but one of the problems is that the customer need to know what kind of apps is better to accomplish a specific task.
This is why lots of blogs or websites or even Apps like Appsfire are good for discovery but at the end of the day not everyone is willing to spend time or is able to do this digging.
What if in the next upcoming Apple MacStore the OS itself will be able to tell you what kind of software you'll need to open a file? The store will suggest you an apps based on the extension type or the context you are working (remember Clippit?)
Another strange thing struck me; digging into the system preferences folder i noticed that now the iMovie plist is called com.apple.iMovieApp.plist is this a sign that even in the Mac we'll be able to buy individual iLife apps like in the iOs? i hope so :-)
This store will be a huge succes for the "normal" people, and i thing we'll always be able to do direct install.
